SUSHI YA MATCHA is a Japanese restaurant and sushi takeaway spot nestled in a busy part of Dollard-Des Ormeaux. Situated inside a commercial building along Boul. Saint-Jean, its unassuming storefront leads into a cozy interior with cheerful, playful decor that adds a relaxed vibe to the dining experience. Locals often pop in for either a quick takeaway or a casual sit-down meal, especially on weekday evenings and weekends when craving fresh sushi hits.

The menu balances traditional Japanese sushi with some modern twists, offering a variety of futomaki rolls and chef’s specialties like the Kizuna, which layers shrimp tempura with poke sauce and avocado, or the vibrant Nagoya roll with salmon torch and spicy mayo. The portion sizes feel generous and are thoughtfully presented, matching the approachable atmosphere. Beyond rolls, the restaurant serves sashimi platters and poke bowls, reflecting a nod toward contemporary sushi trends locals appreciate.

Visitors who come here tend to enjoy the freshness of the fish and the consistent quality, making it a go-to for sushi cravings that aren’t far from home. The seating area, though modest in size, provides a cozy spot for small groups or casual dates. It’s also welcoming for gatherings that stretch beyond closing time on occasion, pointing to a friendly, accommodating staff.

For those who like to end on a sweet note, the dessert options stand out—custard-filled taiyaki with a crisp exterior and matcha parfaits offer a homely touch of Japanese flavors that complement the savory courses nicely.

This restaurant fits well into the neighborhood’s food scene as a reliable sushi option with a touch of authenticity. It’s well suited for locals wanting a blend of traditional and inventive sushi without stepping into the hustle of downtown Montreal. Whether you’re grabbing a quick roll to go or settling in with a sashimi platter and dessert, SUSHI YA MATCHA serves up a balanced experience rooted in fresh ingredients, thoughtful execution, and a welcoming atmosphere.

I have been eating at this place from past year. Fresh, delicious sushi and great service! The cozy seating area makes the experience great. Their chef special crunch-style sushi rolls are a standout—tasty, creative, and definitely worth trying. Highly recommend!

Very happy to discover this sushi restaurant in the West Island. We had dinner here and we ate super well. We ordered the Sashimi platter and 9 Maki rolls. Everything was very well prepared and tasted so delicious. We also tried the desserts: the custard taiyaki (nice crispy outside), the custard cake, the matcha parfait (great for sharing) and a kinako mochi. The decor of the restaurant was cute and it reminded us of our time in Japan. The chef was very sweet and the waiter was very attentive.

The best sushi I've had in Montreal area besides Sakura downtown. The owner is very meticulous in recreating authentic Japanese flavours from her native country Japan. When I'm itching for some takoyaki like in the back streets of Osaka -I order 2-3 orders at a time from here. There also some great great 'modern-pop' 'sushi' here like poke bowls and new style maki. Arigato Gozaimasu!!! Peter-san
